Zulu

Zulu was a remarkable blue-nosed American Pit Bull Terrier mix we met in July 2011 while photographing the pets at the Tangipahoa Parish Animal Control facility in Hammond, Louisiana. He had been surrendered without explanation at the age of two with two deformed front legs and no name. We rushed to post his picture on Facebook in hopes his future forever family would see it before his time was up. Instead, a local rescuer saw it and immediately got him out and onto a transport bound for a special needs rescue in Indiana.

Little did we know that his future forever family had seen his picture and was anxiously tracking his progress across the country. Two women in Milwaukee had fallen in love with Zulu and decided to adopt him based solely on our picture of him: "One day we saw a photo of a beautiful blue-nosed pit bull cross posted on Facebook - he was from a high- kill shelter in Louisiana. His beautiful coloring stood out against a blue background and there was a special tilt of his head that made it seem like he was looking directly at us. His front two legs were clearly deformed. He was absolutely beautiful. We named him Zulu - a warrior, a warrior against all odds." With the help of a Milwaukee rescue, Zulu was transported to their home where he officially became a member of their forever family. It didn't take long before his friendly, gentle demeanor landed him a job as a Breed Ambassador for Pit Bull Dogs.
