Scooby

Scooby is a high-spirited American Pit Bull Terrier mix we met in June 2010 while photographing the dogs at the Adams County Animal Shelter in Brighton, Colorado. He had been adopted and then returned by a man wanting a playmate for his dog. The man took Scooby home and carelessly released him into the backyard without properly introducing the two dogs in neutral territory. A fight broke out and the man got bit while breaking it up. He returned Scooby to the shelter where protocol called for the destruction of any Pit Bull Dog with a bite history, no exceptions. Because the situation was not Scooby's fault, the staff begged for an exemption. They hung our picture of Scooby in the kennel manager's office, forcing her to look into his beautiful eyes, one sky blue and the other golden brown. It worked! She removed his name from the euthanasia list and vowed to find him the right home. It took many months, but Scooby's forever family finally arrived and took him out of the shelter and into their safe and loving home.
