Honey

Honey was a mixed breed dog, possibly American Pit Bull Terrier/Rhodesian Ridgeback, that we photographed in November 2012 at the Manhattan Animal Care Center in New York City. At the time, the ACCNYC had a live release rate of approximately 75%, meaning one out of every four pets that entered the shelter did not make it out alive. Sadly, Honey was in the 25% destined for euthanasia and had less than 12 hours to live when we photographed her. Unlike many of the shelters we visit, the ACCNYC could not or would not give Honey or the other dogs on the list a 24-hour stay of execution; therefore, Honey’s life depended on our ability to connect with and capture her spirit in a picture that would ignite interest and trigger an adoption or a rescue pull. And we did! Shortly after the ACCNYC posted Honey's pictures on their website, a rescue saw them and pulled Honey out of the shelter and away from the threat of euthanasia.
